In April 2009 Canon introduced the imageCLASS D1100 series of monochrome MFPs across N. America and Europe. Made up of the D1120, the D1150, D1170 and D1180, the series boasted 30 pages per minute (ppm) and a 20,000 page monthly duty cycle. All but the D1120 included fax capabilities as standard features, with the D1170 and D1180 adding the advanced capability of emailing scanned documents. The D1180 alone added PCL 5e/6 support.

In August 2009 another MFP version was released in Europe and Middle East/Africa markets. Also rated at 30 ppm, the i-SENSYS MF6680 (Print, Copy, Scan and Fax) was targeted at busy workgroups needing high volume monochrome printing. Several other models also followed with similar specifications.

All machines in the series ship with starter cartridges that are physically identical to the standard cartridge, but containing half the amount of toner than replacement cartridges and with a label identifying them as starters.

The 5,000 page yield all-in-one cartridges are similar to those utilized by the HP^® P2055, but they are not interchangeable between brands without modification. The main differences are the locations of positioning fins on the waste bin sections.
